Melonie Park South Homeowners Association
In April 1971 developer Roy Middleton, then President of State Savings and Loan, formed Melonie Park South. MPS encompasses 375 single-family residences, each with 3 – 5 bedrooms, multiple living areas, and lots of storage. Melonie Park South lies within South Loop 289, Memphis Avenue, 82nd Street, and Indiana Avenue. Bill Miller Park and its playa lake, owned by the city, adjoin the clubhouse facilities on the north side of the neighborhood along South Loop 289. Miller Park provides numerous trees and acres of grass with a well-lighted playground, basketball court, and picnic area. MPS residents can walk to Miller Park and around its recently-installed paved walking path, or to Andrews Park, which offers great views of the West Texas sunsets. In fact, this is one of the best neighborhoods in town for walking. With easy access to the Loop and the Kingsgate shopping center, the neighborhood is in a prime location. The South Plains Mall is just a short drive from MPS. Spacious homes at reasonable prices, the best parks and a great location are just a few of the qualities that Melonie Park South offers. Drive through the quiet streets of this neighborhood and you will see children playing and neighbors visiting in the shade of mature trees. In the summers, residents enjoy the community pool staffed by lifeguards, and all year long we have access to the clubhouse and tennis courts. The MPS Homeowner’s Association owns the community facilities. They consist of a clubhouse, swimming pool, and two tennis courts. Annual dues paid by the homeowners fund the maintenance, grounds keeping and personnel to run the facilities. MPS employs a full-time executive secretary to see to the day-to-day operation of the association. A full time pool manager is employed during the pool season to oversee the pool. The 178,000 gallon heated pool is open Memorial Day to Labor Day every year. There are always certified lifeguards present during pool operation. In 2016, MPS completely remodeled and updated its Clubhouse. It consists of a 17 x 26 foot common area, a full kitchen with sinks, refrigerator, microwave, cooktop and oven, two restrooms and a patio. There are six 6 foot tables, twelve card tables and 50 folding chairs available to renters. The room will accommodate 50 persons for a sit-down function. Homeowners, as well as non-residents, can rent the clubhouse and pool for private events. Homeowners enjoy a discounted rental rate. For further rental information contact the MPS office.
